Knoxville matures in “Bad Grandpa”

The infamous duo Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine are back again with even more shenanigans in “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.” Hilarious and gut-busting at times, “Bad Grandpa” is a classic in the making.

Initially introduced in several “Jackass” pranks, 86-year-old Irving Zisman, played by 42-year-old Johnny Knoxville, appears once again in his own full-length feature.

Unlike prior films in the “Jackass” franchise, “Bad Grandpa” is unique in that it has a plot. Zisman and his 8-year-old grandson, Billy (Jackson Nicoll), are on a road trip across the country to meet up with Billy’s dad.

Seemingly taking a page from a Sacha Baron Cohen film, the loose plot and pranks are acted out on unsuspecting individuals in their everyday lives.

In true Knoxville/Tremaine fashion, controversy and anarchy immediately follow suit.

However, what is particular and odd in this “Jackass” spinoff is the empathy one ends up feeling for the rambunctious Billy. Coming from a broken home, one can’t help but smile at the compassion Zisman shows toward his grandson, albeit it being acted out in dubious bonding through pranks.

“Bad Grandpa” is a must-see film for all who enjoy a good laugh at the expense of others.
