A shutdown of the Student Controlled Reserve Fund was the big topic of discussion during ASG’s second meeting of the spring.

SCRF is the account ASG uses to allocate funds for things related to student activities, and after eight requests were brought in front of the Fee Allocation Committee on Monday, the decision was made to freeze spending from the account for the remainder to the semester.

“We are projected only about $65,000 to come in from student fees next year,” FAC chair Zach Beach said. “So to try to be fair to next year’s senate, we decided to stop spending for this year.” That $65,000 is the remainder of the $175,000 that was brought in from student fees this year.

SCRF currently stands at $12,520.99, not including the desired $30,000 they hope to roll over to the reserve account. According to Beach, the projected total after seven of these eight bills go in front of the senate in next week’s meeting will bring it to just above $5,000. Bills will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis if they meet the required criteria. It was announced that money from ASG’s three other accounts may be used to supplement the lack of SCRF money.

The last bill that was not included above, ASG 13-29, was brought to the floor this week. Asking for $2,400 from the transportation fund, the Construction Management Club hopes to use the fund, as well as $7,620 of their own contribution, to attend the ASC Construction Management Competition in Sparks, NV. The bill passed with only one abstained vote because of the club’s success in recent years at the event as well as the exposure club members can get from the large construction firms in the country that they might not get in Grand Junction.

Two new senators as well as a new Director of Communications were appointed. Matt Scofield was recommended by Senate Leader Barlow and President Diamond to the position, and the senate affirmed their choice. Kasey Benish was selected as the new Professional Studies Senator and talked about her interest in adding more Hydration Stations around campus and possible bike paths.

“I think we all have almost been taken out by a [skate]-boarder before,” Benish said.

Selina Najar was appointed as the new WCCC senator, and she hopes to bring more consistent funding to projects happening on the WCCC campus.

A number of announcements were made at the meeting, including a change in hours for the University Center. Because of the change of the 24-hour study room on the second floor to a multi-purpose conference room, the University Center will now be cleared at 12:30 a.m unless special privilege is given.

Mavzone email is changing from Novell Groupwise to Microsoft 365 this semester. Allowing cloud storage among devices, even cell phones, the IT department is optimistic that the transition will be seamless, but any data loss can be brought up with the department. Microsoft will be implemented on Feb. 6, and icons should be changed by spring break.
