FAC closes SRF for rollover funds

Clubs and organizations are going to have to look elsewhere for funding this semester if they did not already have it established, as FAC is closing SCRF. SCRF is the account generated by student fees that FAC and ASG distributed to clubs and organizations as they expand and take on new projects.

“FAC and ASG decided to make a strategic move to save rollover for SCRF for next year,” FAC chair Zach Beach said.

This comes after eight bills came through FAC Monday night, which, if passed by ASG, will nearly deplete the SCRF account.

According to Beach, if all of the current bills get a positive vote from ASG this Wednesday, there will be about $5,200 available in SCRF, with another $30,000 set aside for next year.

“I want clubs to be able to come to us for money next year,” Beach said in regard to the rollover.

He went on to say that there were several big ticket items that contributed to the use of the funds.

“There were big pay fixes that amounted to around $32,000 which were necessary to fix,” Beach said. “The Point took a lot of money, too.”

The pay fixes Beach mentioned were regarding the fixes in pay for the Criterion, KMSA, Horizon Magazine and others, which were necessary due to changes in federal policy that changed the way employees could be paid.

FAC and ASG face a certain level of ambiguity when determining how much money will be avaliable for the next academic year. Because SCRF funds are generated through student enrollment, it’s nearly impossible to have a definitive estimate. Reserving funds has become a common practice to ensure that clubs and organizations will have access to funds the following year that allow them to host events, travel and expand their educational opportunities.

Though SCRF is empty, Beach says there still are a couple places for those in need to come up with some extra cash.

“We’re talking about opening the transportation fund to help with travel expenses,” Beach said.

There is also the Regional National Competition Fund to help participants who qualified for regional and national competitions, which Beach says is in “good shape” with $17,839 left.

Beach is currently compiling this year’s spending report.
